What the error says
The message appears when you try to play or download a file from your Real-Debrid torrents list or through an app connected to your account:
“File was removed from debrid service due to copyright infringement.”
Some apps show a short red screen or an “infringing file” status instead of the full text. They all mean the same thing. Real-Debrid has decided that the file name matches its block list and will no longer serve it.
What changed at Real-Debrid in May 2026
Real-Debrid started rejecting cached files based on file names and release tags around 10 May 2026. Reports from ElfHosted and TROYPOINT that month described the same pattern: the service stayed online, accounts kept working, and a large share of cached files began returning the infringement error.
Real-Debrid’s parent company, XT Network, said the filter exists to comply with the EU Digital Services Act and French law. It describes itself as a technical intermediary that acts on copyright notices. France has pushed hard on piracy enforcement in the last two years, including blocking orders aimed at VPN providers and DNS services, so the timing makes sense.
Three things matter for you as a user:
- It is a server-side filter. The decision happens before the file reaches you.
- There is no public list. Real-Debrid has not published the keywords it filters, so you cannot predict exactly what will be blocked.
- There is no announced end date. Nothing suggests the filter is temporary.
Is your account banned?
No. The infringement error is attached to a file, not to your account. You can still log in, your subscription days still count down, and files that do not match the filter still work. Many people use Real-Debrid mainly to download from file hosts like Rapidgator or 1Fichier, and that part of the service works the same as before.
If you see an account-level message instead (login refused, “account locked,” or an IP warning), that is a different issue. The most common cause is Real-Debrid’s rule against using one account from several IP addresses at the same time.
Fixes that do not work
People are trying a lot of things on forums. These do not help, because they all happen on your side and the block happens on Real-Debrid’s side:
| What people try | Does it fix the error? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Connecting a VPN | No | The file is blocked on Real-Debrid’s servers, not by your ISP |
| Clearing app cache or reinstalling | No | The app is only reporting what Real-Debrid returns |
| Logging out and back in | No | Your session is not the problem |
| Re-adding the same file | No | It matches the same filter again |
| Creating a new account | No | The filter applies to every account |
What you can actually do
1. Check whether Real-Debrid still fits how you use it
If you mostly use Real-Debrid for direct downloads from file hosts, the change may barely touch you. Look at your last month of downloads. If most of them still work, keep your plan and move on.
2. Ask for help, or for your remaining days back
If the service no longer does what you paid for, open a ticket with Real-Debrid support. Ask what their policy is on unused premium days. Keep the message short and factual.
3. Compare alternatives before your plan renews
Several services work the same way as Real-Debrid: one account that unlocks premium speed across many file hosts. They differ on price, host coverage and how they handle cached content. We compare them side by side in the best Real-Debrid alternatives for 2026.
4. Look at Usenet if you want a different system
Some former Real-Debrid users have moved to Usenet, which works on a separate network with its own providers and retention model. It takes a little more setup. Our guide to Usenet vs debrid explains the trade-off in plain terms.
How the main services compare right now
| Service | Main use | File host coverage | Torrent/cloud support | Price from |

| Real-Debrid | File hosts, cached torrents | Large | Yes, with the 2026 keyword filter | €4 (reported) / 30 days |
| LinkSnappy | File hosts, torrents | 20+ hosts | Yes | $12.99 / 30 days |
| AllDebrid | File hosts, torrents | Large | Yes | €3.99 / 30 days |
| Premiumize | All-in-one cloud | Medium | Yes, plus 1 TB cloud storage | €9.99 / month |
| TorBox | Torrents, Usenet | Smaller | Yes | $3 / month |
Our take
The filter is a policy decision, and policy decisions rarely reverse. If Real-Debrid was mainly your file host tool, it still does that job. If the cached torrent library was the reason you paid, plan for a change before your next renewal instead of waiting for the old behavior to come back.

FAQ
Why does Real-Debrid say “file removed due to copyright infringement”?
Since May 2026, Real-Debrid filters cached files whose names match keywords linked to copyright notices. When a file matches, Real-Debrid refuses to serve it and shows this message. The company says the filter is required under the EU Digital Services Act and French law.
Will a VPN fix the Real-Debrid infringement error?
No. The block happens on Real-Debrid’s servers before the file is sent to you. A VPN only changes the path between you and Real-Debrid, so the same file stays blocked.
Is my Real-Debrid account banned?
No. The error applies to individual files. Your account, remaining days and unaffected downloads keep working. An account-level problem shows a different message, often about using the account from more than one IP address at once.
Does Real-Debrid still work for file hosts like Rapidgator?
Yes. Downloads from supported file hosts work as before. The 2026 filter mainly affects cached torrent content.
Is the Real-Debrid filter temporary?
Real-Debrid has not announced an end date, and the company links the filter to legal compliance. Treat it as permanent when you plan your next renewal.
What is the best alternative to Real-Debrid?
It depends on how you use it. For file hosts, LinkSnappy and AllDebrid are the closest match. If you also want large cloud storage, Premiumize (1 TB) is the usual pick. We compare them in our Real-Debrid alternatives guide.
